Texture

November 19, 2013

Lately, with all the cold weather I've been layering with different textures to not only add warmth, but to play around with everyday and statement pieces, essentially making all of the clothes in my wardrobe universal. With this particular outfit, I chose a fluffy sweater- a statement piece and layered it with my everyday style leather jacket. To veer away from the dark look i had going on on top with my lipstick, i chose low slung jeans and casual, comfortable slip-ons which had a perfect textured look for the overall vibe of the outfit.

Tapestry

November 11, 2013

Before getting into the details of this outfit, I want to address how I have been MIA for the past week! Things have been hectic school-wise and I simply couldn't find the time to deliver a proper post, so I took some photos at my friend's house whom had this gorgeous curtain that was used as a makeshift backdrop, hope you all don't mind. Now for the outfit, I recently picked up this fluffy white sweater from Forever and to say I'm in love is an understatement- it's perfect. I also recently bought these mom jeans which are semi flattering and provide the perfect retro look for this modern sweater. The boots I chose to wear are also a recent fav, as they are the Acne Free Leather boot dupes and I'm still in awe over the price comparison. To tie this look together and accessorize the plain color of the sweater I brought out my favorite chunky gold chain necklace which tends to be my go to piece. This look was comfy, yet still gave a chic look thanks to the modern and vintage pieces incorporated into the overall outfit.

The Maine

October 27, 2013

One of my favorite things about fall are the concerts, some of my favored bands have been touring lately and I've been busy attending their shows. Recently, I went to The Maine's concert in my city and wasn't as impressed with the show as I was with the person. My friend and I were lucky enough to meet the lead singer John O'Callaghan. As I said before and will repeatedly say, concerts require comfort. So, I brought out an oversized sweater to accommodate for the chilly weather while we waited eagerly for the meet&greet. I decided to dress this sweater up with a silk flannel and peaked the collar out to add color. To keep the outfit simple I coupled the sweater with black jeans and chose fun, chunky oxfords with fringe detailing along with my favorite statement necklace to customize the overall look.

Pinafore

October 20, 2013

This week lingered on and everyday I still reminisced about the weekend fun I had. When Friday  came around I was ready to relax, run errands, and spend time with friends. After a birthday party I attended I had a few things to get around town. I decided to sport a comfy casual outfit and what better piece to wear than a dress. Recently I went thrift shopping (may do a post on this) and found this gorgeous forest green pinafore dress that needed to be worn asap. It's finally starting to get cold out and layering is one of the most exciting things for chilly weather, so I wore a thick knit sweater to make this dress weather appropriate. I finished this look off with playful stand out shoes paired with wool socks and a simple black cross body bag.

The 1975 gig

October 13, 2013

Last night seemed surreal, from what started out as just being lucky enough to catch The 1975  playing in my city, to hanging out with the band. I had to make sure that my outfit was comfortable to accommodate the hype of the concert yet, still give off a put together vibe. Knowing this, I turned to a simple cut out jumpsuit and my favorite statement necklace and chunky edgy boots. My oversized leather trimmed blazer provided the perfect bit of warmth while waiting in line outside. The audience ended up being really relaxed and the acoustics were on point. Overall, the show was sick and is now hands down the best gig I've been to yet!

Gardenia

October 6, 2013

So I recently bought this sick kimono from my favorite style blogger idressmyselff and from the minute I saw it I immediately knew it had to be put to use. I figured that a dinner date with my closest friend velveteenn would suit this look best. Now, I know what your thinking because I thought the same- how am I going to wear this? Well, I decided that since the kimono is a stand out blatant piece it deserved to be toned down with modern accessories. I chose a cuff sleeved tee with a bold statement to transition this outfit from traditional to modish and paired that with my favorite origami skirt, (ironic I know) to match the kimono and the contemporary vibe I was going for. Now for shoes, I chose point toe leather flats to once again modernize the outfit and stay simple, keeping the kimono as the main focus. To top off this look I dressed the tee shirt up with chunky necklaces, those being a thick chain and a gold collar; the bag tied in the black and gold and proved to be simply perfect for this look.

Lim for the Win

September 28, 2013

For my first post out in the public eye I chose an outfit that incorporated stand out Phillip Lim pieces. As said in my last post, I checked out Lim's new line at Target and absolutely loved it! I ended up buying two pieces which were the black joggers (they were actually men's!) and the mustard Pashli-esque bag. I wanted the joggers to be the main piece in my outfit so i chose a classic white blouse and tucked it in to show off the high waist design. To add a personal touch to the outfit I chose a gold collar necklace and layered it with my two favorite necklaces - this also tied in really well with the gold hardware on the bag. For my shoes, I've been obsessed with these white platform sandals and wanted to get my last few wears out of them before sandal season ended & they added an edgy flavor to the overall simplistic outfit.
